Argh, stalled!
I'm feeling a bit stalled. Hm.

Anyone up for another round of prompts-and-ficlets? Um, just to switch it up this time, give me a pairing or character and some song lyrics or a quote or something and I'll give you some sort of something back. Yeah.

ETA: Feel free to keep prompt things coming, even though I've posted something since adding this, My plan is to keep writing things until Virus'verse 5 stops being such a jerk and lets me keep going. Right now I feel like it's stonewalling me. Ugh.

(In my personal canon, Parrish is from South Carolina. Just FYI.)

Everything about the place reminds him of David, and it’s sharp and painful and bittersweet, because they always talked about coming here but never made it. And now, now he’s here with David’s family, and they’re looking at him like they want to know why a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force is delivering the bad news about their botanist brother and son, and he can’t say because we worked together and he can’t say because I loved him, so he offers the insincere-sounding platitudes he’s been told to give and stands to leave.

David’s mother catches him by the arm. “Colonel,” she says, and her face is kind, under all of the broken bits that he’d put there, telling her missing in action and seven weeks. He looks down into that face and waits. “You’re the one he’s not allowed to tell us about, aren’t you?”

And Evan blinks, because he hadn’t known that David had told his family, just as he hadn’t realized how plainly it must be written across his face. He can only nod, and Marie Parrish pulls him into a hug and buries her head into the crook of his neck. She’s as short as David was – is – tall, and he wraps his arms around her easily as she whispers comforting, soothing words to him, and it feels right and wrong all at the same time because David was – is – her son, and she shouldn’t have to be comforting anyone right now.

“Come back inside,” she says finally, pulling back. “I’d like to know more about the man my son was crazy about.”

“He’s missing, not dead,” Evan says automatically, then winces. It’s become his mantra, what gets him through the day, and the rest of the personnel on Atlantis just give him sympathetic smiles when he says it now. Marie nods firmly, though, and leads him back into the family room.

They’re going through photo albums and laughing about swapped stories – carefully edited, on Evan’s part – when the radio in his ear bleeps. He stands, immediately at attention. “Lorne.”

“Colonel,” a voice responds. It’s one of the crew members from the Apollo, hovering in orbit, ready to beam him out. The young woman – Barnes? Bates? – sounds hesitant. “News from base.”

Base is code for Atlantis and Evan tenses, bracing for the news. They wouldn’t interrupt his meeting with David’s family unless…

“Proceed,” he says, as calmly as he can, and suddenly there’s another voice, energetic and overjoyed and familiar, and Evan staggers back as someone hands David a radio.

“Evan, my God, Evan,” and Evan can only laugh, too close to sobbing to try to speak, as there’s a quick flash of light and David is standing in front of him with a sheaf of papers.

“Nondisclosure forms for my family,” he says, dropping them to the floor and grabbing for Evan. “Oh my God, oh, Evan, oh.” Evan can only hold on to him tightly as David’s family swarms them, the prodigal son returned from the dead.

Everything here reminds him of David, but it’s happy and sweet and beautiful now, and Evan breathes a sigh of relief.

(I had no idea that in your personal canon he was from South Carolina. It's a bit unnerving that I picked this song...)

Also that was really, really touching. Like it made me sniffle a bit. Which hardly anything does.

(Yeah, he's from a town called Norhlake. I have this entire history written out for him in my head. It's coming out bit by bit in my kids'verse stories... which I why I saw Carolina and was like oh, David!)

Well I'm very curious to see what that history is :D

(Also I think our muses would get along VERY well. I have a similar thing for Lorne)

I love Lorne. There should be some sort of appreciation society for him and how awesome he is. :D

You know about the Com I run here on LJ right? Kavan Smith Daily? (though until my daughter goes back to school next week it's on a time permitting hiatus)

I have one of the largest single source screencap collections of Lorne in his various episodes, and shows.

You might just become my personal hero.
